We're going to be Parents?

Rusty and I have been talking quite a bit about making an addition to our family. We both decided that we are as ready as we think we possibly could be.  For some reason I thought that it would take longer than it actually did. On September 1st I informed Rusty that I missed my period right before I left to go to my parents home for a Labor Day barbecue. I had planned on my way home to get a pregnancy test, so I did. Rusty was very excited to hear that I may be pregnant and was anxious for me to take the test. So I took the test in our other bathroom, and the box with the instructions was in the upstairs bathroom, so as soon as the results came up I had no clue what two lines meant. Little did I know I was looking at a positive pregnancy test. I went upstairs to get the instructions and noticed I was pregnant. I immediately felt rushed with blood, my palms were sweaty and my heart beat was rapid. I then walked very quickly to Rusty who was just standing in the front room and showed him the test. He looked at me with a huge grin, and we hugged.  It was like nothing we have ever experienced before, the feeling of knowing we are going to have a child. I think I was in shock!! As the evening went on I started to feel much more at ease and excited about the pregnancy. I think Rusty and I make a great team and are ready.

We did not want to tell anyone until we went to the first doctors appointment to confirm. That didn't last long.  Rusty came to me and  asked if he could call his parents to tell and I of course said yes. I then called one friend to tell her. But that was all till the next day. We went to my parents to visit and I was extremely nervous about how to tell them. So we chatted for awhile, then Rusty pipes up and says, "Hey Tony, do you want a beer?" My dad then says "No, I'm okay, do you want one?" (by the way this was a Sunday early afternoon ...beer?) Rusty says "No, but Melissa can't have any beer." My mom, "Why did you drink too much last night?" My dad, "Your pregnant!"  Yes I said, looking at my moms expression, covering her mouth which was wide open and seeing her eyes immediately tear up made me tear up. It was a great reaction from both my mom and dad. Then we all sat down to speak about all our plans.

Afterward we went over to my sisters to tell her, which I must admit she wasnt in the best mood, she was taking care of two sick boys. So I was then stuck again on how to tell her. So I just Looked at her while she was holding John (the baby) and said "I'm pregnant!" she immediately jumped up and and said, "Really?" and hugged me and still jumping up and down! (She has wanted this for a while now) Rusty, who was coming out of the bathroom missed all of this until my sister ran and jumped on him. Her reaction was by far the wildest!!

This is the reason why I wanted to start a blog. I got to see all the reactions from my family! Unfortunately we do not get to see Rusty's families reactions and they do not get to hear about all the little details the pregnancy is going to bring. I want to share with them this entire experience as well.  So I will do my best to keep up with everything and be sure to post all I can, pictures and all.

Although all our family and Facebook knows now, we didn't know if it was too early to tell others. Only because it is still early in the pregnancy and things can happen at this stage. But all we can do is hope and pray for the best. I think all will be okay.

On September 16th we went to my first Doctors appointment. I was not able to drink or eat anything for an hour before the appointment. And thus far I have had some nausea throughout the day, and very bad hunger pains. So not eating first thing in the morning did not make me feel to well, it passed eventually. So Rusty came into the room and the doctor showed us the baby. It was just a small dark spot, looked like a little worm, with a dark spot flashing very quickly! It was its little strong hear beat. I dont think that I can explain how we were feeling at that exact moment. It was exciting and made it just so much more real! According to the size she said I was 7 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I have to go back for another ultrasound so that they can confirm a due date. I hope to have that this week.

So besides the nausea, and fatigue we are excited. Rusty has already taken on a Father role with me. He doesn't like me running, cutting grass or any thing that may harm the baby. So I had to make sure the doctor told him that I was okay to do all the things he thought I shouldn't. It's going to be a fun ride...I hope.

Well congratulations Grandma, Grandpa, Papa, Grandma, and Papi. Congratulations Aunts, and Uncles, Great Aunts and Uncles. Congratulations Cousins, and to new Mom and Dad!

  1. Out of all of the ultrasounds, the first one that showed the little heartbeat is still my favorite one. It really did make it official that we were going to be parents! I'm so happy for you guys!

  2. Well, because I feel quite underrepresented, I will tell you about my reaction.

I was in the front passenger seat of the car on my way back home when I got a text from my brother. And, let's be honest, that in itself was a suprise. So I open the text and it took all of about 0.5 seconds to figure out what I was looking at. So I then screamed and we almost wreck because I scared the driver so bad!I teared up and called Rusty...

I'm SO excited to be an Aunt! Thanks for doing this blog so I can join in, too!!

    Love you both! Amy
