From Farmers to Ford

Around the Holidays Rusty had been actively looking for a new job. There was always talk about an exit plan with Farmers only because he was ready for a change, and Farmers (although great for 8 years) suffered from their lack of mobility. He had several of  his co-workers go to his current position with Ford. Luckily with their reference Rusty was able to interview and get the job. Its similar to the insurance position, but instead of working with everyday customers, which I know was stressing and exhausting, he now deals only with the Dealerships, and other Ford employees. Another reason for taking this position was to have him home more often.
When Rusty first got the mini cat position which entailed lots of travel, we said we'd do it for a year or so...only because we didn't think we could live with him gone so often. Then 4 years flew by...and our family adapted to it, it worked well for us, although there were the obvious problems with one parent gone so often. I think the traveling was finally starting to get to us. With the girls being more involved in things during the week I was ran ragged. So when Rusty got home I expected a lot of help and wanted to relax....but then realized Rusty also worked long hours everyday he was gone which could end up being a full 3 weeks in a row...so he too was exhausted...therefore having a household of two very tired and cranky parents was not fun. Also when he came we wanted to get out do things as a family, go out for dinner. Rusty wanted to just stay in the house and lounge. Don't get me wrong he
wanted to have family time, but since being away from the home so often, he wanted to enjoy it, where as we have been stuck home the entire time he was away!  So theres our story about why we needed a job with less travel.
So thus far he has been traveling still quite a bit, but its a week here, two nights there, and maybe a weekend there. He is still learning and getting used to the job, and not necessarily enjoying the travel he's thankful its not for long period of time The other option we had discussed if he took another position with less pay, then I would then go back to a full time position to make up for the pay. As much as I was ready to I am glad I get to stay at my current job and have the same schedule as the girls.
One perk is the great company car. I was never into trucks...but I love his truck and we love the 4 wheel drive, its come in handy with all this dang snow we've had. Ive always been proud of Rusty and his career. He's always made the right moves at the right time when it came to looking for a new job. He makes sure he does his best when applying for a job he knows he will love and really wants. Cheers to Rusty!
